Gallery Update

This is just a REALLY quick blog update to say that I have finally started adding some of my art to this page. A lot of the things that you see there will probably be digital work, but I will aim to upload a wide variety of media.

The medias that I find easiest to work with are either drawing or painting. Therefore, I’ll aim to get a lot of work done in this style and update the gallery as often as possible.

Addicted to Instagram? .. Me too!

I had been waiting so long for an iPhone and when I got one I went on a massive App Store spree. I downloaded the usuals; Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds etc. And then, I came across Instagram (mainly through the regular pictures uploaded by @MeTheManAndBaby). My life changed!

I see myself as quite a creative person and enjoy drawing and digital work. But I had never really considered photography. Mainly because I don’t really have the best camera or skills for it. But this little piece of free software has made photography 100 times easier.

You can either take a photograph from your Camera Roll or take a picture on the spot, which you can crop to the perfect size. You are then given the option to add your own focal point either linear or circular. This simple touch makes the photograph look more professional immediately.

The next step is to choose a filter layer. Just one click can change the look and mood of your photograph immediately. You can choose ‘X-Pro II’ (my personal favourite), ‘1977’ for the old-fashioned look, or ‘Inkwell’ for the black and white sophisticated look.

I have taken a really simple picture and changed the filter a few times, it’s clear to see how much choosing one of these can change the picture completely. You can see them around this post.

Once you have chosen your favourite filter, you choose an appropriate caption for your photograph. Next, you are given the option to share your work on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. This is definitely a good thing to do, to raise other people’s awareness of your work.

My favourite part of this Application is the Newsfeed! Similar to the newsfeeds on other social networking sites, it keeps you updated with other people’s creations. You can follow people, like photographs and even leave comments. A look at the ‘Popular’ uploads is a nice thing to do once in a while, you’d be amazed what you can do with an iPhone and a FREE piece of software.

The only thing I’d suggest to those who created Instagram, is to make the image viewer better when viewing online. When you click a link to somebody’s photograph you are shown that individual picture. I have found a website called Inkstagram, which you log in to with your Instagram details. This then shows you all of the photographs online. I don’t know whether this is owned by the makers of Instagram, but it works!

All-in-all, I’d recommend Instagram to everybody – whether you’re ‘in to’ photography or not, it’s an easy and fun way to share pictures! If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself checking people’s feeds and looking at their pictures in awe, all day – every day.
